Therapist near me

Being a parent is not easy. But, for many, the decision to work with a counselor or therapist is the best parenting decision they have ever made!

At the simplest level, parenting and family counseling, is just “help with your child.” Parent and family counseling is a service that aims to provide you with knowledge, guidance, tools, and emotional support, all without judgment or bias. It can also include all loved ones, you and your spouse and/or child's father, you and your child, or just you. Each treatment plan is specific to the situation. It doesn’t matter if the conflict lies between you and your child, or if it has to do with family trauma or child-related developmental, physical, or mental health problems; counseling sessions can provide you with the support and resources you need to be the best parent possible.

During parenting and family counseling, you learn the tools needed to function optimally within your family unit. More specifically, family counselors provide you with the guidance and support you need to provide a stable and healthy childhood experience for your child. It will also help you as a parent better understand you inherent parenting style and then dive deeper into understanding how various problems affect you and your family, and potentially change, that style.  The truth is, people tend to assume that parenting is just comes naturally, when for most it doesn’t.

The truth is having children and understanding how to parent are two totally different things. And, even if you have a good understanding of what it takes to be a good parent, it doesn’t necessarily mean you can avoid the challenges that often accompany it. To be honest, there is no such thing as a “perfect parent.” However, working towards being the healthy parent for your child an family dynamic is possible!

We all make mistakes, which is why parenting and family counseling may be the best decision you’ll ever make. This type of counseling addresses a multitude of issues... therefore, engaging in parenting and family counseling can be extremely beneficial – not only for yourself, but for your children and your partner.

Parenting and Family counseling is valuable through behavior pattern recognition and change, dealing with traumatic life events, family dysfunction and change. We seek to work towards future social, academic and independence goals. If you address one area of the family system and work towards positive change the entire family system will begin to change in positive ways as well!

Note: Parents are a part of the therapeutic process. During the initial visit, the counselor will meet with the parent(s) and adolescent together. Afterwards, there will be time for the parent(s) to speak with the counselor individually. The counselor will then meet individually with the adolescent. This is a healthy process to build trust and open communication. Family sessions are encouraged and welcomed!
